Discovering Your Musical Path

I am a Montreal-based, Suzuki-certified violin instructor with over 12 years of teaching experience. I have a Bachelor’s of Music from McGill (Viola), where I minored in Baroque Performance. My background as a writer also gives me a knack for communication, which comes in handy when talking to my students about the intricacies of violin playing.

My teaching style draws principally from the Suzuki method and Alexander technique. My goal is always to cultivate an organic, physical relationship with the instrument, grounded in active listening. Lessons focus on solidifying technique and building confidence on the instrument so that, with time and practice, it feels like an extension of your body. As musicality and expressivity naturally flow from mindful, active listening, we incorporate a fair amount of singing, tapping, and clapping into our lessons. I explain musical concepts quite poetically at times, and very practically at others, depending on your learning style and needs of the day.

Group classes and concert outings

Group playing and performances (recitals and masterclasses with other teachers) are also integral to my approach. It is so important to play with and for others! It builds up skills and confidence, and is also a ton of fun. In the spirit of community-building, I also organize two studio field-trips to local concerts per year.

The teaching solutions (find better title)

Beginner Adult Group Class

A class designed for adult beginners with at least 6 months of playing experience.
Focused on the rudiments of group playing. I adapt the repertoire depending on the level of participants.

Children’s Group Class

Children’s group class. Fun, relaxed atmosphere to play through repertoire learned in private lessons (Suzuki Books 1 & 2). Lessons on ear-training and basic music theory are interspersed throughout the session.

Private lessons

Children’s lessons Until age 16: 30, 45 minute and 1 hour lessons

Adult lessons: 45 minutes, 1hr.
